ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS
A solo exhibition by Lottie Stoddart -
THE TAGLI is delighted to present Rock, Paper, Scissors, a solo exhibition by Lottie Stoddart. This intimate exhibition will showcase a journey into the captivating interplay between image and reality. Rock, Paper, Scissors invites the viewer to explore Stoddart's layered worlds formed through her technical trompe l'oeil and the limitless boundaries of illusion. These works originate in the humble cardboard box, which has undergone multiple mutations from painting through to ceramic sculptures. This exhibition present's Stoddart's theatrical, independent realms where scenarios oscillate between dream and nightmare. There are recurring, playful motifs across the works such as cartoon clouds, party foods and archaeological treasures. Connecting threads weave in and out of monstrous forms, while cardboard forests grow in subdued groves, all illustrating Stoddart's ability to craft a unique visual language. Her works converge to combine the cosy, familiar with the uncanny.

LOTTIE STODDART
Lottie Stoddart (b. 1989, Cambridge), lives and works in London. Stoddart's interdisciplinary practice fuses multiple sources from literature, archaeology and childhood across painting, drawing, ceramics, textiles, film and creative writing. She plunders historical and personal episodes of creativity, vision, and belief that craft works which defy easy categorisation. Stoddart layers varied materials and techniques to create humorous juxtapositions, bringing clunky crudity into dialogue with refined sophistication, where hard meets soft and reduced economic forms coexist with intricate detail. In 2015, she honed her practice during The Drawing Year at The Royal Drawing School and in 2019/20, she participated in the Turps Studio Painting Programme at Turps Art School. Stoddart holds a First Class Honors BA in English Literature from the University of Warwick, which she completed in 2011. Stoddart is the recipient of THE TAGLI's 2023 Mentorship Award, and was recently included in the 2023 British Ceramics Biennale Fresh exhibition category. In 2021 she received the APT & Fenton Arts Trust Award.
